June 6: The MONA Prize Exhibitions begin at Midtown MONA Detroit Friday June 6th 2014 6-9pm

 
 

The MONA PRIZE:

An Exhibition Award sponsored by the MUSEUM OF NEW ART (MONA) and given to 3 Graduating Students of Cranbrook Academy of Art.

 

There are currently three MONA Locations and each will offer a separate 4-week exhibition to the three chosen artists over the summer and will also include a cash award of $1500 (a gift from Frank Edwards and Ann Williams), broken down into $500 per awardee.

 

1) Midtown MONA | Detroit
Opening Friday June 6, 6-9pm
A collective of 8 artists

2) Museum of Photography and New Media | Troy
Opening June 29, 3-7pm

3) MONA North | Armada
Opening June 22, 3-7pm

This working exhibition explores the relationship between an artist and their studio as well as the institutional support needed to continue producing artwork post-graduation.

At this Museum of New Art site [aka Galerie Camille], 6 recent graduates from Cranbrook Academy of Art will receive a 12x12ft studio space for one month.

Every Friday, a working artist, critic, or curator within Detroit will conduct studio visits with the residents. The exhibition will culminate in a panel discussion with the public. This exhibition is curated by recent graduates of the photography department at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Chanel Von Habsburg-Lothringen and Kate LaPier.

This exhibition is a MONA prize winner.
