Live Review: Cut Copy July 9 Royal Oak Music Theatre

With the release of their latest album "Zonoscope" Cut Copy have perfected their electro pop into live set that is a mixture of synths, Beach Boyesque harmonies and even weirdo effect moments which added up to quite the show on Saturday night at Royal Oak Music Theatre. But, let me back up, the warm-up act, Delicate Steve, was a bit of strange psychedelic mix of guitars and dance that I'm not sure won any one over, but their stage appearance was different.

Starting around 10pm. in front of a nearly full audience, Cut Copy began their new tracks that while less electric still won the crowd over with singalong moments. At times Cut Copy appeared both stiff and manic, with the singer confined to his keyboard while a side percussionist roamed the stage. The hour long set pulled mostly from their last two records, using the best from "In Ghost Colors" including a crowd moving "Lights and Music". The encore started with their latest single, the OMDish, "Need You Now" and they closed the set with my favorite track "Out There On the Ice". A good night that I managed to pull together the 2 minute video below that probably sums it up much better.
