Earth Day 2010

Officially, Earth Day falls on Aprils 22nd, but in Metro Detroit, the date is more of a guideline. Here are just a few of the 2010 Earth-Day Events in Metro Detroit:

Earth Day at The Detroit Zoo
When: 4/17/10
Where: The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak


The Detroit Zoo celebrates Earth Day through several family-friendly activities. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes crafts, games, animal-enrichment demonstrations and a scavenger hunt.

Farmington Hill's Earth Day Celebration
When: 4/17/10
Where: Heritage Park, Farmington Hills


The City of Farmington Hills hosts an event chock full of workshops and demonstrations, including information about how to make money by saving energy and the magic of composting. There will also be several events for children, including Trash to Art, face painting and a scavenger hunt. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Green Week in Ferndale
When: 4/17/10 through 4/22/10
Where: Ferndale


Ferndale turns Earth Day into a Green Week. Festivities begin with Veg Fest 2010 on April 18th at Ferndale High School. Speakers include Rory Freedman (co-author Skinny Bitch books) and former Piston John Salley. There will also be food and exhibitions. More information about activities will be announced on the website.

Rochester's Earth Day Fest
When: 4/23/10 through 4/25/10
Where: Downtown Rochester


Billed as Michigan's largest Earth Day event, Rochester's Earth Day Fest is in its fifth year. In addition to 200 green-friendly exhibits, there will be live presentations and demonstrations, musical acts, documentary films, roundtable discussions, activities for kids, a 5K trail race and even a parade!

Northville: Earth Day Fitness Walk/Run
When: 4/24/10
Where: Coldwater Springs Nature Area, Northville


The second-annual walk/run "kicks off" on February 24th.

Plymouth's Green Street Fair
When: 4/30/10 through 5/2/10
Where: Downtown Plymouth


In its third year, the Green Street Fair expands to three days. Over 150 exhibitors will showcase eco-friendly/green products, and the event hosts several eco-friendly workshops and demonstrations to educate consumers. The fair will also feature live music, street performers and children's activities.
